Kalmar Nyckel Cruise

Join us for an exhilarating 2.5 hour sailing experience on the tall ship Kalmar Nyckel.  Starting in New Castle DE, we will journey under full sail up and down the Delaware River.

You will have the opportunity to help haul lines & raise the canvas ... hear tales from the crew … or simply relax and enjoy the breeze & the view.

The crew will share the history of the ship and answer any questions about sailing this square-rigged replica of the original Kalmar Nyckel.

SIGN-UPS:  

  • To sign up, mail completed form and payment to Jeff Walters

  • First come, first serve, in the order completed forms with payment are received

  • Sign-ups close if / when the event sells out, or on August 15, 2025

  • If you sign up, then later wish to add more people, you can do so if space permits.

FUN FACTS: The original Kalmar Nyckel …

  • brought the first European settlers to New Sweden (Delaware) in 1638

  • made 4 successful transatlantic voyages, more than any other vessel of its era

  • is the same vintage as the famous Vasa in Stockholm

  • ship design predates the invention of a ship’s wheel for steering

WHEN: Meet at the dock at 9:30 AM, 30 minutes before 10:00 AM ship departure

WHERE: New Castle Pier:  1 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE. 19720.
Parking is available at the dock and on nearby streets

PRICE: $68 13 & older; $42 12 & under

LIMIT: Max capacity 49 passengers

OPTIONAL LUNCH:
1:00 PM group reservation at Jessop's Tavern just up the street. American & traditional fare.

  • $10 hold charge per person, credited upon arrival

  • Order and pay for lunch separately

  • People can sign up for the sail, the lunch, or both.

Snacks & beverages are available on board for purchase
