Summary:

Two dozen club members traveled to Utah for a week of skiing at Park City, Canyons, and Deer Valley. Though we were originally scheduled for non-stop flights, American Airlines switched both inbound and outbound flights to connections. Fortunately, weather and luck were on our side as everyone made the flights and our baggage followed us to Park City and home.

The Peaks Hotel had clean, efficient rooms, nice pool, a respectable breakfast, a lovely Italian/American restaurant, and a wonderful staff. Due to a recent influx of people to Park City as well as short staffing at restaurants, it was almost impossible to get dinner reservations in PC even using Open Table; having a dine-in restaurant which provided take-out options made meals easier to navigate. The closest stores were a 15-minute walk. With liquor stores closed by the time we arrived Saturday and UT law keeping them closed on Sundays, a long line ensued Monday.

Our group get-togethers went well starting with a Welcome Pizza and Salad Party (no alcohol provided ☹, but we managed to find a few bottles). Due to restaurants not currently being able to handle large groups, we divided up for Wednesday and Thursday night split group dinners at 350 Main. These were exquisite with a unique menu selection and appetizers, and excellent service.

We finished off the week with a Leftover Party in a heated outdoor tent shared with the Morris

County Ski Club, room compliments of our Hotel Group Leader…if you ask nicely, you often get.

The Snow Gods did not cooperate with fresh powder, but the Sun Gods did. We had Spring skiing conditions and Park City did a nice job of grooming the runs. We managed to find snow, with some icy morning runs turning into mashed potato” conditions in the afternoons.

Tuesday at Deer Valley added to the ambiance of fine dining, skiing only with no snowboards, and viewing homes along the slopes which rival lifestyles of the rich and famous. A subset of our group decided to have a late lunch as dinner since the food rivals any gourmet restaurant.

The rest of the week at Park City was most enjoyable with plenty of skiing for all.

We were hoping to have an accident-free trip, but on her last run on the last day, we had an injury…a fractured shoulder. Kathy s prognosis is good for a complete recovery and we wish her all the best. This is a good reminder to carry your ID, Insurance Cards, Emergency (ICE) number, and Trip Leader information on the slopes and check your ASTM binding settings at a ski shop. We had three binding-related incidents WSC this year: released too soon, didn’t release, and “disintegrated” in pieces. Please have your In Case of with you at all times. What’s App really helped with overall communications too.

A fun trip was had by all and we look forward to our next trip to the slopes!
