Winterthur and New Gallery Tour: “Dining by Design: Nature Displayed on the Dinner Table” and Outdoors New Architectural Follies
Join Marie for a tram tour of the Winterthur gardens in May which will be bursting with colors of mauves and pinks of the Kurume azaleas in the Azalea woods. Some Rhododendrums will be in bloom. The spectacular Peony collection will also be in bloom. We will go indoors to visit the new 2018 gallery exhibition for a visual feast of flora and fauna in the “Dining by Design: Nature Displayed on the Dinner Table.” “In this major new exhibition you can takes a fresh look at the history of dining and dinnerware from the 1600s onward and see how hosts and hostesses have brought the natural world into their dining rooms. Everything from painted butterflies and hand-modeled flowers to tureens in the shapes of the foods served in them will be on view, set among a fascinating range of ceramic and silver tableware…While many things have changed in our world, the love of nature-inspired motifs as part of the dining experience continues from the past to today.”
New to Winterthur for 2019 are several additional Follies, which are Architectural whimsies in the gardens. Most but not all can be seen from the tram. We can walk to a few others near the Visitor’s Center.
