White Water Rafting - Lehigh River
Fall Foliage Rafting, Saturday, October 6, 2018
Some of the survivors form last year's white water raft trip on the Lehigh River are interested in going again. So this year I have expanded it to make it two trips: a trip August 11 and a Fall Foliage trip on October 6 . The outfitter is Pocono Whitewater in Jim Thorpe, PA. (We pass Jim Thorpe on I-476 on the way to ski at Elk Mtn.)
We survived the August 11 trip. And I have reservations for Saturday, October 6. The total time on the river is about 4 to 5 hours; there is some travel time to and from the river and some organization and instruction time. So the total time for the raft trip is about seven hours. The Lehigh in this stretch is a Class II and Class III river, meaning we will get wet and maybe a little scared but it is not terrifying.
I have ten reservations with Pocono Whitewater in Jim Thorpe. Our reservation is for 10.30 a.m. It is about a 2 hour drive up I-476 from North Wilmington. I recommend being there by 10:00 a.m. but no later than 10:15 a.m. We should be done rafting about 5 p.m. The rafts hold 4 to 6 people. So if we have 10 people, I expect we will have two rafts.
Bring a lunch in a sealable plastic container or sealable bag. There will be dry bags for our lunches. Bring water. Bring sunscreen. Bring old sneakers (or water shoes) that can get wet - flip-flops are not adequate. Bring dry clothes for the trip home. For October trips we need wet suits. If you don’t have a wet suit, Pocono Whitewater rents wet suits.
The cost for the rafting, after taxes, etc., is $74.19. (It will be less if we get 10 people.) To be sure we have enough places, I need to have confirmed reservations by Tuesday, Sept 25. These trips sell out, so we may be limited to 10 people.
